In the final match of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition tournament, world number one player Novak Djokovic beat Nicolas Almagro to clinch the victory. This serbian beat spaniard 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-4 to get his season off to the perfect start.
In another match, Spain’s David Ferrer defeated Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 to take third place in Abu Dhabi.
Djokovic said, “It was a fantastic experience for me to go to Abu Dhabi. This was a very nice tournament, you always get great matches, very tough matches against top opponents, and great attendance also.”
Meanwhile, Djokovic beat world number five Ferrer in straight sets to book his place in the final, while Almagro, a late replacement for the injured Rafael Nadal, fought back from a set down to beat Janko Tipsarevic. Moreover, all four players will compete in the Australian Open which goes underway in Melbourne on 14 January, with Serbia’s Djokovic the defending champion.
